The Profile of an Ideal School Volunteer

What does the ideal school volunteer look like? Do you have a person in mind that you would love to have in your school helping with projects and events? No! You have in mind a job that needs to be done. With that job there are certain aspects and skills that you need in a person to accomplish that task. If you ask someone who has no skill in the area you need the job will be done poorly or not at all and then we must start over.

Follow these quick questions to help you determine who the ideal volunteer would be for the job you need done:

  • What job do I need done?
  • What skills or characteristics are needed to accomplish this task well?
  • Who do we know who has these characteristics?

The Ideal School Volunteer

Once you have clearly outlined the job you need to have performed, then move on to identifying the person who would best complete it. The best way to ensure your volunteers are satisfied in the task you’ve given them is to play to their strengths. Here are the three steps you’ll need to follow to positively identify that volunteer.

  • Do they meet the criteria?
  • Are they willing?
  • Will they make time?

If someone is not a yes to all three of these criteria you may have a problem on your hands. Make sure you match up a job with a person dedicated and skilled and you will be blown away by what they can produce.
